AP: Bush refuses to criticize Obama in Canada
Former President George W. Bush says he won’t criticize President Barack Obama because Obama “deserves my silence,” and says he plans to write a book about the 12 toughest decisions he made in office. Bush’s speech Tuesday at a luncheon in Calgary, Alberta was his first since leaving office.
He declined to comment about the Obama administration like former Vice President Dick Cheney. Cheney said Sunday that Obama’s decisions are threatening the nation’s safety.
Bush says he doesn’t know what he’ll do in the long term but says he’ll write a book that will let people determine what they would have done if their most important job was to protect the country.
I’m glad to see President Bush staying classy. As depressing as it is that Americans have decided that they don’t value class, as evidenced by America’s selection of Barack Obama, who gave Hillary Clinton the bird on one occasion, and gave John McCain the bird on another.
I have to admit that I’m a little bit torn though. Staying classy is the right thing to do, but what good is that if you are allowing the Democrats to ruin the country? Should we behave trashy like the Democrats, since that is apparently what wins elections in 21st century America? Should Republicans stay classy and keep losing?
Or is this a false choice? Maybe Americans really don’t care about class at all. Either way, other things equal, this American will vote for the classy politician every time. Maybe that is the crux of the issue right there. Other things are never equal.
