BDS at Obama Inauguration

From The Hill:

The crowd packed on the west side of the Capitol grounds serenaded President Bush in mocking fashion when he took to the inaugural stage alongside Vice President Dick Cheney.

“Nah nah nah nah, hey hey, good-bye,” a section of the crowd chanted.

The crowd packed immediately below the podium received Bush in stony silence when he took his seat on the stage surrounding the podium where Barack Obama was scheduled to take the oath office to become the 44th president of the United States.

The jeers are among the final public feedback Bush will receive as president.

Hard to take liberals seriously when they say they want to put partisan bickering aside, and then stories like this come out of the news. Liberals don’t want to put partisan bickersing aside, they want conservatives to either agree with them, or shut up. This conservative will do neither. Today seemed like it was as much about Bush hatred as it was Obama’s inauguration. Inauguration day should be a day for all Americans to celebrate freedom, democracy, and the peaceful transfer of power.  Just as the parties have to heal after the primaries, the nation has to heal after the general election. It seems to me that liberals are trying their best to keep those partisans wounds fresh.

For my part I have been trying to stay classy and let the Democrats have their day. Obama deserves his honeymoon period as much as any other president (despite the fact that Bush didn’t get one due to the circumstances of the 2000 election).

Of course regardless of the mistakes to come, Obama will never be treated with the same level of disrespect as Bush was because he, like any other Democrat, has the support of the media. But as a conservative, having just lived through 8 years of listening to visceral loathing directed towards a president that I support, I am not feeling very inclined at the moment to put aside any partisans feelings. I have the sense that there are millions of others out there who feel the same way.
