Bobby Jindal Speech
I had the opportunity recently to hear Bobby Jindal speak, and if you have the chance I highly recommend that you go listen to what he has to say. He is unapologetically conservative and very common sense.
He talked about:
- The need for a change in attitude at all levels of government regarding their treatment of and attitude towards the taxpayer.
- His appreciation for the response from Texans during hurricanes Katrina and Gustav. Texans gave many types of assistance and it came not only from the government but also from church groups and individuals.
- His observation that people do better in an emergency than government with all of its bureaucracy and red tape.
- In an emergency situation, private entities can move faster than public entities.
- When cutting through red tape in an emergency, it is often better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.
I had the privilege to meet him afterwards and get his autograph. I was surprised how different he seemed in person than on stage. When he was giving his speech, he spoke confidently and with authority. When speaking person to person, he seemed very humble. Overall I was very impressed with him, he seemed like a really great guy. I’ve met politicians before who are already looking around the room for who they are going to talk to next, and not really paying attention to you. Bobby Jindal was in no way like that, he was attentive and seemed very genuine and sincere.
He is a rising star in the Republican Party, and has been mentioned as a possible presidential candidate. As the youngest governor in the country he has time on his side and plenty of talent, so he is definitely somebody to keep an eye on.
