Clinging Bitterly to Antiquated Ideas Like the Constitution, Free-Market Capitalism, and Limited Government

About Lone Star Lizard

LoneStarLizard is a proud conservative South Texan who clings bitterly to many things, including freedom of religion and 2nd amendment rights, as noted by The Messiah (tm).

This blog is an expression of that bitter clingy-ness, and is the logical response to the hopey changey-ness from which the U.S. is currently suffering.

Unpopular President!!! Obama approval rating drops to 49% (Rasmussen)

Posted By LoneStarLizard on July 24, 2009

From the Drudge Report:

COOL TURNS COLD: OBAMA ‘BELOW 50%’
Fri Jul 24 2009 08:24:16 ET

For First Time, Obama’s Approval Rating Falls Below 50%

Overall, 49% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President’s performance, RASMUSSEN will report later this morning.

This marks the first time his overall approval rating has ever fallen below 50% among Likely Voters nationwide. Fifty-one percent (51%) disapprove.

Eighty-three percent (83%) of Democrats continue to approve of the President’’s performance while 80% of Republicans disapprove. Among those not affiliated with either major party, 37% offer a positive assessment.

The President earns approval from 51% of women and 47% of men.

RASMUSSEN was the most accurate pollster for the final results of the 2008 Presidential election.

Developing…

ZOMG UNPOPULAR PRESIDENT!!!!1

I look forward to hearing the media repeat this phrase over and over ad nauseam, just like they did the second George W. Bush dropped below 50%. Right? Right?

White House: Stimulus About to Begin

Posted By LoneStarLizard on June 29, 2009

From the Financial Times:

The US economy will feel a substantial boost from the Obama administration’s emergency spending package over the next few months, says Christina Romer, a senior White House official, who has warned against tightening monetary and fiscal policy before recovery is well established.

Ms Romer, chairman of the US president’s council of econ omic advisers, told the Financial Times in an interview she was “more optimistic” that the economy was close to stabilisation.

Ms Romer said the latest economic data were encouraging, following a weaker patch a month ago. “I am more optimistic that we are getting close to the bottom,” she said.

Just thought it might be a good idea to document this here, so we can refer back in a few months and see where we are.

Bienvenidos, Welcome to Cinco de Cuatro

Posted By LoneStarLizard on May 5, 2009

Imagine if Bush had done this:

El Presidente Obama celebrates ‘Cinco de Cuatro’

Well, there goes some of the Latino vote next time.

President Obama greeted a White House crowd this afternoon gathered for a May 4 premature celebration of Cinco de Mayo, the Mexican holiday honoring an upset military victory over the French, whose troops didn’t do so well in North America and don’t celebrate the same day much.

Anyway, in a well-intentioned attempt at Spanish and a joke about being a day early, Obama said:

“Bienvenidos. Welcome to Cinco de Cuatro — (laughter) — Cinco de Mayo at the White House. We are a day early, but we always like to get a head start here at the Obama White House.”

Apparently unbeknownst to the president he wasn’t saying “Happy May 4th.” He was saying, “Happy fifth of fourth.”

He could have said, “Feliz cuatro de mayo.” But he didn’t. So that explains the laughter.

He should be particularly ashamed of himself after this lecture.

I completely agree with him that Americans should make more of an attempt to learn other languages.  Especially Spanish, given that it is the 2nd most widely spoken language in the U.S.  So, how about we get right on that, Mr. President.

Fred Barnes: So Far, So Good? Only 1,361 days to go.

Posted By LoneStarLizard on April 26, 2009

From the Weekly Standard:
Obligatory “Obama First 100 Days” Post. I like Fred Barnes’ assessment:

Obama, for the moment, is riding a wave of announcements, claims, hopes, and possibilities. This is what new presidents thrive on. It’s what makes them popular, especially because there’s no accountability. But a year from now, perhaps sooner, the joy ride will be over. Results will matter. Obama’s policies will either be working or not. And if not, even a friendly media won’t be able to sugarcoat the bad news or alleviate the political consequences.

1,361 days to go? Really? It feels like it’s been 1,000 days already. He’s already spent us into oblivion, with a budget that will run over $500 billion deficits per year and triple the national debt in 10 years. As if it wasn’t bad enough when the Dixie Chicks were bad-mouthing our country over in Europe, now we have a U.S. president doing the same thing, as part of his world apology tour. He actually bowed to the president of Saudi Arabia, and is so comfortable with his privileged status among the media that he even tried to deny it, never mind the fact that there are pictures to prove it. He went to Europe to request help in Afghanistan, received only token support, and rested easy knowing that the media would spin it as a win. But as Fred Barnes says, the media will not be able to protect him forever. They could not protect Jimmy Carter forever either. With a little luck, maybe a Ronald Reagan will come along in time for 2010.

Sign the Petition: Don’t Honor John Murtha

Posted By LoneStarLizard on March 26, 2009

Shamelessly double-posted from RedStatePolitics.com. Because I feel that strongly about this.

I signed this petition and I hope that if congressman Murtha makes you as sick to your stomach as he makes me, you’ll sign it too. You do not have to be in the military to sign the petition, as long as you are an American you can sign it. Over 37,000 people already have as of this writing.

Also, be sure to respond to the poll on Military.com from the link below.

Murtha Award Sparks Vet Outrage
From Military.com:

In one of his last moves before leaving office March 13, then-Navy Secretary Donald Winter quietly awarded 19-term Democratic congressman John Murtha (Pa.) with the service’s highest civilian honor.

Citing Murtha’s “courageous leadership, vision, and loyalty to the men and women of the Department of the Navy,” Winter presented the influential chairman of the House Appropriations Committee’s defense panel with the Navy’s Distinguished Public Service Award, an honor bestowed in “those extraordinary cases where individuals have demonstrated exceptionally outstanding service of substantial and long term benefit to the Navy, Marine Corps, or the Department of the Navy as a whole,” a Murtha release stated.

Murtha has refused to recant his accusations or apologize to the Marines he accused of war crimes. When asked by Military.com in late 2007 whether he regretted his initial statements and owed the exonerated Marines and Sailor an apology, Murtha refused to comment, saying the cases were still being adjudicated.

The primary reason for their ire stems from the congressman’s statements in May, 2006, that a squad of Marines who responded to an IED ambush and short firefight in Haditha, Iraq, rampaged through the village, murdering civilians “in cold blood.”

The Navy did not respond to a request for comment on the award or the backlash from veterans groups by post time.

The only honor congressman Murtha deserves is the honor of being voted out of office and never returning to public service again.

AP: Bush refuses to criticize Obama in Canada

Posted By LoneStarLizard on March 17, 2009

From the Associated Press:

Former President George W. Bush says he won’t criticize President Barack Obama because Obama “deserves my silence,” and says he plans to write a book about the 12 toughest decisions he made in office. Bush’s speech Tuesday at a luncheon in Calgary, Alberta was his first since leaving office.

He declined to comment about the Obama administration like former Vice President Dick Cheney. Cheney said Sunday that Obama’s decisions are threatening the nation’s safety.

Bush says he doesn’t know what he’ll do in the long term but says he’ll write a book that will let people determine what they would have done if their most important job was to protect the country.

I’m glad to see President Bush staying classy. As depressing as it is that Americans have decided that they don’t value class, as evidenced by America’s selection of Barack Obama, who gave Hillary Clinton the bird on one occasion, and gave John McCain the bird on another.

I have to admit that I’m a little bit torn though. Staying classy is the right thing to do, but what good is that if you are allowing the Democrats to ruin the country?  Should we behave trashy like the Democrats, since that is apparently what wins elections in 21st century America? Should Republicans stay classy and keep losing?

Or is this a false choice? Maybe Americans really don’t care about class at all. Either way, other things equal, this American will vote for the classy politician every time. Maybe that is the crux of the issue right there. Other things are never equal.

Rasmussen: Obama Approval Drops to 56%

Posted By LoneStarLizard on March 10, 2009

Rasmussen poll shows Obama’s approval rating has dropped to 56%:

Also, as pointed out by Rosslyn Smith at the American Thinker, the number of Americans who strongly disapprove has doubled from 16% to 32%:

The Rasmussen tracking poll reports that Obama’s overall popularity has been at 56% for the last three days.  The details are even more interesting.  While the strongly approve number has been steady to slowing declining, now standing at 38% the strongly disapprove number has steadily grown from 16% to 32%.  Thus after only seven weeks in office seven out of ten people feel very strongly about this president, one way or the other.

Just 7% more points to go until the media can start chanting “unpopular president, unpopular president” just like they did to President Bush. Hey a guy can dream right? Anyway, the way the economy is going it shouldn’t take long.

Not a day goes by anymore without another article appearing describing Obama’s attacks on capitalism and free markets, and the stock market has responded by being in a virtual free fall since inauguration day. We cannot afford this president, who hopes to force equality by making all of us poorer.

Pelosi Snowed-Out of Global Warming Rally

Posted By LoneStarLizard on March 2, 2009

From CNS News:

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) had to cancel an appearance Monday at a global warming rally in Washington, D.C., that was hit by a snowstorm because her flight was delayed, her office told CNSNews.com.

Brianna Cayo-Cotter, the spokesman for the Energy Action Coalition that held the rally,  told a group of reporters that she had been in contact with Pelosi  and that her flight had been delayed because of inclement weather.

A blizzard Sunday night and early Monday morning blanketed the nation’s capital with snow, causing events to be cancelled and delayed across the city.

LOL! I wish I had something to add to this, but I got nothin!  ahahaha…
